Earlier this year I had the pleasure of spending a day with the artist Stephen Turner, who was living for 12 months in the Exbury Egg and has just completed his residency.  The Exbury Egg is ‘a temporary, energy efficient self-sustaining work space in the estuary of the River Beaulieu. It is a place to stay and a laboratory for studying the life of a tidal creek, a collecting and collating centre with integral storage & display areas. It will take on the patina of 730 daily tides below the water line, and 365 days of weathering by wind, rain and bleaching by the sun above’. Although, I have lived in the New Forest area for over 20 years, it was fascinating to experience a beautiful part of the national park  I had little knowledge of, but also to learn how Stephen was using his time to understand the natural locality and its processes.
