Markham Moor Services on the A1 in Nottinghamshire is a fabulous example of late 1950s modernist architecture, now listed but for obvious reasons in danger of dereliction. Designed by Lincolnshire architect, Sam Scorer (1923-2003), the building was originally designed as a petrol station, before being converted into a Little Chef restaurant in 1989. I had the pleasure of admiring the architecture a number of years ago when travelling on the A1 and it was still in use, but on a recent visit to the area I took the time to photograph this unique and unusual example of roadside architecture in the UK, before the building deteriorates even further.
