I am always intrigued by redundant petrol pumps and the important role they once held. This former BP pump adjacent to a garage is actually on the route of the Great North Road (the famous old A1 trunk road from London to Edinburgh), at Great Gonerby in Lincolnshire and long since by-passed by an upgrade to the route in 1962. Although shown as ‘Not For Resale’ the access to petrol was obviously very useful to the adjacent garage, which probably also held a more important role for the local village.
